Toine Timmermans

Toine Timmermans is Program Manager, Sustainable Food Chains, at Wageningen University and Research in the Netherlands, as well as the Coordinator for the EU projects FUSIONS and REFRESH.

For over 15 years, Toine has supported businesses and public organizations in fostering sustainable food chains and responsible food systems.

The overall aim of REFRESH is to contribute to SDG 12.3 by halving food loss and food waste across the post-harvest supply chain by 2030. This involves building a responsible and sustainable food consumption and production system based on circular economy principles. The project focuses on the prevention and reduction of food loss and waste, and maximizes the value from unavoidable food waste. Its main ambition is to develop and implement national “Framework for Action” models based on strategic agreements across all stages of the supply chain (backed by governments), delivered through collaboration and supported by evidence-based tools.
