Meet our startups

EU@SXSW is excited to feature a mix of awesome European startups on our outdoor Demo Deck. The companies, part of the Startup Europe ecosystem, were selected using the Commission’s new ‘Innovation Radar’, a tool focused on the identification of high potential innovations and key innovators. Offering some of the hottest technologies, the companies are a fitting testament to the EU’s efforts to foster innovation.

The company demos will showcase unique, cutting-edge ideas: from the British Research Platform that enhances digital products and services, to the innovative Danish digital platform that facilitates the creation of “web apps.” With five startups hailing from different Member States, the EU is incredibly proud to be supporting this diverse display of some of the best European tech innovations. You can read more about the companies below.

Alongside these companies, our Demo Deck will also showcase startups nominated by EU Member State Embassies in Washington DC; an example of the strength, connectivity, and cooperation of the EU digital ecosystem.

Peracton Ltd (Ireland)

Peracton is a spin-out from National University of Ireland, Galway.

Funded by Enterprise Ireland, the country’s investment and development agency, Peracton’s mission is to develop and exploit advanced Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies to build, improve, test and execute complex investment and trading algorithms. Full automation, combined with AI technologies, are imperative since the human brain, excel spreadsheet or fixed constraints models just can’t handle the financial data volumes and volatility of the markets.

The company has developed a financial analytics platform called PERACTON in order to support human professional investors and traders compete on financial markets, in a world where the overwhelming majority of securities are transacted by computer algorithms.

Although the company’s primary focus is on the financial services domain, some of our technologies are currently being prototyped in Clinical Data Analysis, Cyber-Security and Robotics.

Wappsto (Denmark)

Wappsto is an AppStore where you can sell your data and buy my data.

But why would I want to buy and sell data?

Data is the key to enriching my personal smart life. If, for example, my neighbor already has a weather station, I can save myself the trouble and just buy his data.

Okay, so why would I want my neighbor’s data? With weather data I could for example better control my floor heating.

But how do I put the data to use? Wappsto.

Wappsto is the AppStore that Steve Jobs might have dreamt of: a web app store. No SDK, just web standards.

Wappsto where data exchange between you and me is improving our smart life.

EU@SXSW is excited to showcase 5 innovative companies that have benefited from Commission funded programs. Companies were selected in consultation with Startup Europe using the Commission’s new ‘Innovation Radar’, a tool focused on the identification of high potential innovations and the key innovators behind them in FP7, CIP and Horizon 2020 projects. The Innovation Radar was used to identify a list of the top innovations that meet the strategic objectives of SXSW as identified by EU Delegation in consultation with Austin technology experts. Those companies were then invited to apply, from which the final 5 were selected.
