Parking Lot, EU House at Native
After extensively traveling through Europe, this larger-than-life, 1.5-ton metal sculpture – reading “LOVE” from one side and “HATE” from the other – is experiencing its American debut. Brought across the Atlantic by the European Union to kickstart transatlantic conversation, the piece by German artist Mia Florentine Weiss is creating global buzz. This one-word poem speaks to today’s division and the worrying dissemination of hate online. It uses art to bridge divides between people and nations alike by bringing communities together and encouraging open dialogue. It began its U.S tour when it was installed near the White House in November 2021, but has now landed in Austin for its second stop. After March 14, “LOVE HATE” will make continue to make appearances across the country – turning hate into love.
