Prof. Dieter Gorny

Chairman of the Advisory Board, Initiative Musik

Dieter Gorny is professor for cultural and media studies at the University of Applied Sciences Düsseldorf and is a member of the executive board of the German Music Council. For the past 10 years he has been the Chairman of the supervisory board for Initiative Musik as well as president of the German Federal Music Industry Association. In 2015, Dieter was appointed as Special Advisor for Creative and Digital Economy to the Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy in March 2015. In 2011, he was appointed as managing director of the European Centre for Creative Economy. Previously, Dieter served as executive vice president for MTV Networks Europe until 2006. He founded the Popkomm music conference & fair in 1989, and the VIVA Television in 1993, which he led until 2004, initially as managing director, and from 2000 onward as CEO of VIVA Media AG. In his earlier years, Dieter studied composition, double bass, and piano. He played in several orchestras like the Bochum and Wuppertal Symphony and various bands.
