The EU returns to South by Southwest at its “EU@SXSW” venue at ‘Palm Door on 6th‘ (508 East 6th St) March 8-11with a strong line-up of European music and innovation along with in-depth discussions on everything from artificial intelligence to disinformation.
This year’s EU@SXSW will feature a conversation between EU Competition Commissioner Margrethe Vestager and Recode’s Kara Swisher on anti-trust and the digital economy. Visitors will also hear from leaders and experts on topics such as fighting disinformation, the future of work, women’s role in innovation, the ethics of artificial intelligence, monetizing music, and much more.
EU@SXSW kicks off at 2:00 PM Friday March 8 with SXSW’s official International Women’s Day celebration. Co-hosted with UN Women, this will be a full day and night of activities featuring talks with inspirational women from business, policy, and the arts as well as some incredible female musical artists.
The weekend EU@SXSW program features several official SXSW sessions including a debate on whether AI is the silver bullet to combat disinformation and some possible scenarios about the future of work. Don’t forget to join us Saturday night from 6:00 PM for the EU@SXSW opening reception, featuring European food and drink as well the Italian bands La Terza Classe and Husky Loops.
EU@SXSW has made a name for itself by offering some of the best live European musical performances in Austin and this year is no different with a stellar all-female Music Monday line-up. On March 11 at 6pm, Italian singer-songwriter BIRTHH takes the stage, followed by Portuguese fado artist Marta Pereira da Costa and Irish pop punks Whenyoung. Then at 8pm, the Reeperbahn Festival / Keychange Showcase kicks off with pop/rap artist Mavi Phoenix from Austria and German garage rock duo Gurr. These performances will shine the spotlight on the diversity of female acts coming out of the EU while highlighting the EU’s support for gender equality in the music industry.
Also new at this year’s EU@SXSW EU House will be interactive experiences on spotting disinformation and discovering the best in European music. Have the painter’s touch? You can also color in our 4′ x 7′ transatlantic canvas on the back lawn!
